Ballot Recommendations

Picture
Yes, the League of Women Voters are nonpartisan regarding political parties and candidates - we do not oppose or support them.

However, we do take positions on issues and support or oppose ballot measures on public policies that align with League positions.
Once we have studied an issue and taken a position, we take action and advocate for or against particular policies or laws related to that issue. If we do not have a studied position on an issue, we will not make a recommendation.
This election, voters face long ballots and are being asked to weigh in on a wide variety of critical issues.   Whether you vote early, by mail, or on Election Day, we’ve made the decisions easier. After careful study and analysis, the League of Women Voters of California and the League of Women Voters of Palo Alto offer these recommendations:

League of Women Voters of Palo Alto Voting Recommendations on the November 6, 2018 Ballot

The League of Women Voters of Palo Alto have recommendations on local Measure E and Measure Z our Palo Alto ballot:

LWV Palo Alto supports these two City of Palo Alto propositions:

✅YES on E Transient Occupancy Tax would increase the hotel tax from 14% to 15.5% to generate money for the city's general fund, without taxing residents, to help complete projects such as the new public safety building and other municipal needs. LWV supports maintenance of city services at the highest level possible. Simple majority needed.

✅YES on Z School Bonds ($460 million), to continue upgrade started in 2008, including multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, auditoriums at Gunn and Paly, and the Paly Tower. LWVC consistently supports funding public education facilities to ensure a quality public education, essential to a democracy. 55% majority vote needed.

League of Women Voters of California Voting Recommendations on the November 6, 2018 Ballot

The League of Women Voters of California have recommendations about seven of the eleven Propositions on our state ballot:
LWV California's position on these 7 ballot measures:

✅YES on Prop 1 - Veterans & Affordable Housing
✅YES on Prop 2 - Homeless Housing Bond
❌NO on  Prop 3 - H2O Bond
❌NO on  Prop 4 - Children's Hospital Bond
❌NO on  Prop 5 - Property Tax
❌NO on  Prop 6 - Gas Tax Repeal

✅YES on Prop 10 - Local Option for Rent Control

Read more on the ballot recommendations and why here on LWVC's webpage.

Because League positions do not cover the issues in the following measures, the LWVC is taking no stand on:
Prop 7 (Daylight Savings Time), Prop 8 (Dialysis), Prop 11 (Ambulance Drivers), and Prop 12 (Farm Animals). Prop 9 was removed from the ballot.
