The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) is governed by a 5-member Board of Education, elected for 4-year terms. The School District is independent of the City of Palo Alto, and its boundaries are not the same.
The School Board meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room at 25 Churchill. Citizens are invited to express their views to the Board, but are encouraged to present problems first to school personnel, unless they relate to District policy. Palo Alto is a charter city and operates under a council-manager form of government. The City Council has 9 members elected for 4-year terms. The mayor is elected by the Council from its own members. The Council meets on the first three Mondays of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall. For further information call the City Clerk's office.
On Fridays before meetings, Council packets are on file in public libraries, in the City Clerk's office and posted on the city Web site. Agendas are printed in local newspapers, and are available from the City Clerk, and on the City Webpage under agendas/minutes/reports. Meetings of the council and some commissions are broadcast on cable channel 26 and KZSU (90.1 FM).
